Ala Carte: Treating the Dying 3/3/2027: 3 CA, Type I CEU

     I have found treating patients who are dying to be one of the deepest dimensions of clinical practice. For 5 years in the early 90’s I ran a free treatment program for anyone with HIV. I spent time in the county homes in Florida learning to care for those who felt hopeless and abandoned. Over the course of my 40 years in clinical practice I have worked with many patients in various stages of the dying process.

     In this class we’ll take a deep dive into working with the dying. I’ll present the gross and subtle dimensions of Chinese physiology in relationship to the dying process. We’ll consider the distinction between those who are still fighting to live, those ready to let go, and implications for treatment. I’ll present the physiology of the upper kidney points and discuss mechanisms by which the same points can both promote conception, rebirth, or letting go in the dying process depending on context. We will consider the pulse and how it transitions in the process of dying. Lastly, I’ll present treatment strategies for helping to bring grace to the dying process.

Objectives:

1.     Hold a deeply philosophical view of the dying process.

2.     Understand various stages of resistance and letting go.

3.     Learn the importance of supporting patients to clear karma as they prepare to die.

4.     Learn treatment strategies for empowering grace in end stages of the process.

5.     Understand the process of dying in terms of Chinese physiology.
